Microtunnelling

Microtunnelling is defined as a process which uses a remotely controlled boring machine with a size less than that of a man combined with the pipe jacking technique to directly install a string of pipes underground especially for wet and unstable ground conditions, whereby the soils at the cutter face are controlled to maintain balance. This process avoids having long stretches of open cut trenches for pipe laying which causes tremendous disruption to traffic flow, affecting the community.

Presently this is the most accurate pipeline installation method. Line and grade are carefully controlled and maintained in the process. This can be very important when trying to install a new pipeline in areas where underground utilities already exist. Ideal for gravity sewer construction, Microtunnelling installations also include underground crossings of roads, highways, railroads, runways, and rivers.
