Project Name: Trenchless Pipe laying of 1700mm Ø Steel Casing by Tunnel Boring Method- Supply and Discharge Pipelines for New Pasay Pump Station (Package 4)
Date: September 2011
Client: Maynilad
This project is part of Maynilad project on the Water Discharge Pipelines from the New Pasay Pumping Station and Reservoir at PAGCOR entertainment complex. The project was to tunnel below NAIA road so that water from the reservoir could be transported to the discharge lines heading to Las Piñas and Cavite. The tunnelling crossed Macapagal Boulevard and bored below NAIA Road extension towards Roxas Boulevard, Parañaque City, using a 1700mm Ø Steel Casing. Because it was rather long trenchless pipe laying, a tunnel boring machine was used. Researching on the site geology was significant. The work done was below the water table and so sump pump was used to keep the work pit dry. The tunnel boring machine deployed was Slurry Shield MJV 1700S. This was specifically suited for the soft and watery ground of the project. The soil at the tunnel face is cut and drawn into the cutting chamber, where it is pumped out as slurry. The whole pipe laying contract package was secured by J.V. Angeles Construction Corp. and the tunnelling portion sub-contracted by MCT. The project was completed in September 2011.
