Microtunnelling Construction Tech. offers quality service in the construction and repair of underground utilities, particularly in the field of energy, telecommunication, gas, water distribution, sewerage, and drainage systems, using trenchless technology, including microtunnelling, and pipe jacking.
The idea of building a company that specializes in trenchless technology was conceived in the heart of Engr. George Audie Tan when he initially learned about the technology in 1998. After receiving intensive training and experience in Malaysia, Germany, the United States, and Canada, Engr. Tan was ready to transfer what he knew about trenchless technology to the Philippines. In particular, he personally implemented the trenchless pipe laying of 1200mm diameter water main for Maynilad, crossing North Luzon Expressway beside Malinta Interchange. These have been augmented continuously with him carrying out several major trenchless pipe installation projects in the country.
Before it became what it is now, Engr. Tan co-founded Microtunnelling Systems Corp. together with his brothers, who were then stockholders, in May 2000.
From doing projects such as no-dig pipe installation that crossed EDSA below the MRT rail tracks, tunnel grouting in the NAIA runway, and trenchless pipe laying and interconnection cross-under at E. Rodriguez corner Araneta Avenue – just to name a few, Microtunnelling Systems Corp. was able to utilize its resources and deliver quality service for clients like Maynilad Water Services Inc. and Manila Water Co, Inc. The company made sure that every work is done in a manner that will produce superior results, that is of excellent quality, that the work is safely undertaken, is reasonably priced, and is timely completed. Microtunnelling Systems Corp. became one of the first contractors who specialized in the trenchless or no-dig system of underground pipe installation and rehabilitation.
Aside from pipe laying and underground utility works, the company has also ventured into the building of elevated steel water tanks in Water Districts such as those in Cabangan, Zambales, Guagua, Pampanga, and Cuyapo, Nueva Ecija. These projects further laid the groundwork for the company’s growth.
In 2007, an opportunity of a new project with Maynilad in Gil Puyat Avenue came up, and this led to the complete restructuring of the company. It was about this time when Engr. Tan re-launched the company, renaming it Microtunnelling Construction Tech. (MCT).
What sets MCT apart from other construction companies is that the machines and equipment used are mostly custom designed innovations. The engineers find out what is needed in a particular project and they develop the appropriate machine for it. MCT has branched out into developing its own machines to deploy in operation.
Over the years, MCT has experienced strong and continuous development. The company enjoys a reputation for quality performance, providing solutions for what the others cannot accomplish. MCT has brought underground infrastructure to a new level; and to a certain extent made an impact in the eradication of negative effects associated with open trenching methods of underground construction. It is committed in giving new meaning to the underground utility construction in the Philippines.
